They will spend a year in Caljfornia, viewing the wonders of the west and enjoying the climate of the coast coun try. F. U. Lile and family left Saturday for Sumner county, Kansas, after e pend ing a couple of weeks at the bedside of her brother, Prof. J. T. Rucker, who continues very low at the home of bis parents, Larkin Rucker and wife, over near Alanthus. Mr. and Mrs. Lile ex pect to spend the summer in Kansas, and they may locate permanently there. While at the depot last Satur day Finis banded us another dollar, with strict injunction that we send the ttecora alter tnem at least once a week, during the coming year. Elmer E. Deel, assistant foreman of the Brotherhood of American Yeo men, was present at the meeting of the Darlington Homestead last Thurs day night and gave a most interesting talk on the order and the' work which it is doing There was a good crowd at the meeting, and those present could not help being impressed by the talk of Mr Deel, and they were also impressed by the rapid growth of the Yeoman order, ae pointed out in his speech. The Darlington Homestead still continues to take in new members. and is fast becoming one of the strong branches of the order in this section. Mrs.' C. L. Groom visited Sunday at P. A. Lock's. Miss Edith Tolliver of Bethany visited Saturday afternoon with her uncle, C. W. Tolliver and wife, in west Darlington. She was on her way to Mary ville, where she is attending school. Miss Pattie Rigney of near Evona returned home Saturday, after a ten days' visit with her sister, Mrs. Em- mett Shelby, here. Miss Rigney wil probably teach in the Darlington schools the coming year. M. O. Gartin this week sold his drug store in Darlington to J. A. Barger of Bethany. Mr. Barger expects to move down this week.and take charge of the business here. East-bound Wabash passenger No. 6, which heretofore passed Darlington at 2:45 in the afternoon, has been chang- ed thirty minutes, its time now being 3:15 p. m. Mrs. Elizabeth Peery and Attor ney J. i. urnst and wile of Albany were in Darlington for a few hours Saturday, on their way to Nodaway county to attend the funeral of. Mr. Ernst's sister. Word comes from Waterloo, Neb., that Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Skelton are the proud parents of a boy boarder who ar rived at their home on April 20th. Grandpa S. S. Garman of Darlington wears his new dignity with becoming honor. New poles are being put in to carry the numerous lines from the Adams corner south of Darlington into the I central here. There were too many lines ior tne iignt poles tnat were originally put in when the Albany line was run to Darlington, and so heavy cedar poles are now taking the place of the old poles, and numerous cross arms can De put on to carry the wires from the south -Quite a number of the young peo pie gathered at the home of C.
