New Factory Installs Cprlnkllng System A sprinkling system for fire protection has been- Installed in the new shoe factory building whlob it appears to ps will make the building without question fire proof. . Water pipea are bung on the ceilings of the three stories, six of them tho entire length of the buildlhg on eaoh floor. On these pipes about every eight feet apart Yalres are plaoed and each ralve has a fuse which will melt and open when subjeoted to 160 degrees of heat. The ralTes are so spaced that every foot of both floor space and ceiling is covered by the water whioh spray a out from these valves. A 50,000 gallon water tank on a 00. foot tower' will give the pressure necessary and will be used for this sprinkling system onlr. whenever any valve is opened oy neat a gong is sounaea whlob gives warning oi me. After watching a test yesterday morning we have no doubt that as Ions: as the system is maintained runnlnz in order the building can not be destroyed by fire and we'll aav anyone who is working wnere one of these valves gets on the job is going to get wet. Owenavllla Treaiurer, Subscription Petition to - Orldee Dry Dranoh -A subscription petition is being circulated to raise money to bulla a substantial ooncrete culvert across Dry Branoh on the Owens ville-Bem road lust south of town. The petition proposes a culvert 8 font hi eh, 20 feet wide ana i feet across and It Is estimated the 4 entire work Including grading and approaohea will cost in the neighborhood . of 11000. The petition is addressed to the County Court and prays for a sum from the Court equal to the sum subscribed. Everyone who travels this road knows that Dry Branoh is by far the worst place except Dry fork Creek on the road from Owensville to the Bourbois and one of several varv necessary road improve ments needed in the vicinity oi Owensville. While it Is true tbe County Court has notmuoh money at hand we feel confident a way will be found to meet the petitioners half way and make a good Job of this at present bad gap in the road. Notmuoh has been asked of the Court for improvements near Owensville In recent years and the people here and south of here who use this road constantly feel that they are deserving oi consideration in this projeot. Poland China Dreaders to Meet at Owensville The Gasconade County Poland China Breeders Association will held a meeting in Owensville Sat-urday, August 12, at 1:80 p. m. The weather was pleasant and many from distaal points were present Seriously Durned by- Powder Explosion Clarenoe. the 7 year old eon of Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Murray, was seriously burned Sunday evening when he touched a match to soma gun powder. He had found a quantity . of powder in a heavy glass bottle in the unueed granary1 of Tappmeyer & Henneke, tno door of which someone had left uolooked. Setting the bottle on the driveway to the eranary he lit a match, and stuok it in the narrow neck of the bottle. There fol lowed an explosion like a shot from a Run. The oharge of pow der struck the boy in the face and . a piece oi glass out a vein In hie wrist. He rolled down the em bankment and ran home, a block distant, with his shirtsleeve burn Insr. His little sister and brother ooming home from town overtook him and helped extinguish the the flame. . The boy's face was burned all over and his arm burned from tho flaming shirt. Also lesser burns on his other arm and his knees. His f aoe swelled and closed his eyes and it could not be determined at onoe whether or not his eyes were Injured. Drs. Bridges and Ferrell, who . dressed hie wounds, think now his eyes were not seriously affected and that tHe burns will heal quite rapidly. After they were dressed he rested well and appears to be getting along nicely Q-t. ; Duilding Operations In Hambro Addition . Three houses built by Ed. R. Aufder Heide, Peter Meyer and Chas.
