In session in Union, issued an order ; "sterdiiy i Monday i ordering all dops in Evergreen School District No. 57, Walbert School District No. 58. Good Hope School District No. 60, Hoekrldgo School District No. 53. and Pin Oak 1 School District No. 55, as well as that l part of the Gerald School District out side of the Town of Gerald be either Impounded, killed or immunized lrom rabies. This action followed the biting by u dog of tn young sons of John Crews of Gerald, on ttaturday. March 31. anil of B. II. Angell. also of Gerald, on Little or nothing was thought of the incident at the time. A week later the dog died and the iinlmal was taken by Mr. Angell to the laboratory of the State Board of Health In JefTerson City. Analysis of the dog's brain showed it to have had a well-developed case of rabies, and B. L. Layboiirn, chief of laboratories, urged that those having come In contact with the animal be given the serum treatment. In making this order Mr. Layboiirn also issued the following warning: "I also wish to call your attention lo the Inct that the virus of rabies is present in the saliva of an Infected animal about eight days before any symptoms are noticed. Persons who have Ix-en In contact with this animal during this time are In more or less danger of contracting rabies as (hero are eases on record where a dog has licked his master's hand during Ibis stage of the disease and the man has later developed rabies even I (hough there were no visible abrasions Ion his hands. The explanation of this is that I hero were minute crack.) or abrasions on Hie skin which were too small lo lie seen with the naked eye. but were nevertheless of sufficient sle and depth lo eriiiit entrance of the virus " The towns of Gerald and Hosebuil Joined the Franklin County Court in making the same orders ellective within their boundaries r.s are in client in tlie above named school districts. On Saturday of lust week John' D. Schulte and Miss Louis Korlf, both of the Rosebud neighborhood, were bitten by a dog and I hey are likew ise taking the serum treatment. No other incidents have bei n reported up to the lime of going (o press, but it appears lo be exl'eniely wise that the utmost precaution be taken to pie-vent the spread of rabies. M. I'. M. I'.
