Takes Life Ey Siccus Called fcrfZf:;y Service One of tbe most sorrowful tragedies that ever occurred In Boone township took place on Tuesday afternoon, October 22,' 1818, between 1:30 and 2 o'clock p. m., when Henry Vieten ended his life by shooting himself with a double-barrelled shotgun at his home, three miles north of Spring Bluff. : Mr. Vieten waa alone when h committed suicide and the cause of his act Is unknown. - His wife and daughter and son-in-law had started for Cave flnrln A Wlelt MlatJwu .Ml. m 1 It Ha more than thirty minutes before tbe Douse waa discovered 10 ne in names. Several weeks ago Mrs. Emma Bergmann knitted and donated to the Red Cross a bandsoma and dur able sweater to be used by some sol- aier in me service. When the sweater ' was readv to be delivered to the Red Cross one of her little nieces playfully attached a piece of paper to the garment on which she had written, "From Aunt Emma Berg mann, union, ho." Tbe sweater was received by one of Uncle Sam's boys aoon thereafter and this ia what he wrote in appreciation to his Aunt Emma:" I Waco, Texas. Oct 17. 1811. Mrs. Bergmann, . Dear Friend:. I raceived the sweater vou do nated to the Red Cross and sure want to thank you for it. It ia cer tainly aomething a soldier will need before long. KtBsing, Dan Alt, John Knel-per and Fred Stettes spent Saturday evening with E. Hoerle, playing cards. Several more ot the neighbors had intended to he present but on account of the bad weather, were unable to be present. - Mrs. E. Hoerle was tendered a farewell aurprlse party Tuesday afternoon by bar . neighbors and friends, a dainty luncheon was served By the ladles and a pleasant afternoon spent by all present, and on departing, all wished Mra. Hoerle good luck and. health in- her new home. Mr. and Mrs. Ernst Hoerle will leave within a few days for St Louts where they intend to make their home at least for tha winter. Mrs. Hoerle has not had very good health lately, and It is for that reason they sold their farm. All regret very very much to these good people leave our community, but we wlb them good luck in their new borne,, and also that Mrs. Hoerle will aoon recover from her illnem. Several weeks ago Mrs. Emma Bergmann knitted and donated to the Red Cross a bandsoma and dur able sweater to be used by some sol- aier in me service. When the sweater ' was readv to be delivered to the Red Cross one of her little nieces playfully attached a piece of paper to the garment on which she had written, "From Aunt Emma Berg mann, union, ho."
