It appears that the member elocted to the Missouri Legislature from the 2nd district of Franklin County, won a hat from John Buekct of S- Clair, on a wager on the erection, and wrote to him to send ono suitable for the dignity and honor of a Stale representative to wear at the Stale Capi-tal, whereupon Mt. Busket sent him an old worn out bat of last j-ear. Now this may be all right, tout if Mr. Buskef opinion, (bo being an old, simon pure Democrat) of the honor and dignity of tho Missouri Legisla ture does not amount to more than an "old hat" what onght a straight Republican to think of it. But wo are informed that, so far, it is only a joke, and that he will revise his opin ion, and send a belter hat. Tho Kditors of the Observer very magna n imously accord u the choice of inking refuge under tho iinpota-tion ol being a liar or an ignoramus, in charging them with writing the canard about new vaults for the court bouse hmt week, and they cure not which horn of the "dilenja" wo take, in getting out of the difficulty. Vaughn of the weM, end of Union township whs in our 6 ft ice on Tuesday morning with a petition memorializing our members to the Legislature lo present and have enacted a bill preventing the citizens ol ono County from going into other Counties for tho purposn of hunting and running dur with hounds. The document was already signed by all of our leading citizens, and of course we added our autograph to tho list, and afterwards began to reflet, over the act. So far as tho desired bill will rcleaso deer from their relentless foe, tho hounds, we are in favor of it, aud an additional bill, or an amendment, ought to bo immediately moved, to pVohibit all hunting ol deer with bounds, - aud to insure which, the act ought to include a commandutory provision that all hounds should bo killed. Otherwise, the bill asked for only amounts to class or local legislation, and the members of tho General Assembly ' will 'probably only See it in that' light. It will amount to a privilege to the people ot Franklin County, which the citizens of St. Loui County are deprived of. It don't amount to much, yet wo should ihhk we were terribly ostracised, and our liberties grievously curtailed, if we should bo prohibited from going into Maries County to chase and fright-on deer. Thirty years ago Michigan people wero a frank and truthful set. St ran gers could come here and trade horses with their eyes shut, and breach ol promise cases were unknown. Folks meant what they said, and when they gave their word stuck to it. Exactly thirty years ago this month a widower from Now York state, ap peared in Lansing on business. That samo business earned him over to Do Wilt, eight miles awey. While on the way, ho stopped at a log farm house to warm bis cold fingers. He was warmly welcomed toy the pion eer and hi wife, both of whom were well along in years, and alter some general talk, the woman queried : "Am I right in thinking you are a widower V "Yes." Kvery ono interested in homo attractions will be pleased to . know that there has just been put on the market a new line of mottoes, original and elegant in design, which are so artistically arranged, and tho bead nigs so carefully stamped, that even children can work them up beauti fully, and in skilled hands they may be made an ornament, and an attraction in the homo ol the most refined lovcis of art. Jeffries, J. P. Miss Boyd to Mr. John Brugk'b, the latter of this County. We ran correct Ihcni in spelling "di lemma", which should clear us of the cjjargo of ignorance, and applying tho rule that an Ivlitor is responsible for what has no ether responsible author in his papor, wo get rid of the other charge of being a liar. It was intended to be a surprise party no doubt but Frank was seen slyly walking up the street about dark wuh a desen cans of oysters in bis ba-ket. Bitr. Huuting with Hound. Mr," Jan. Similar bi'la have been presented heretofore, discussed and laid on the table ." Almost anj'body can send a boy on an errand, but only the wealthy have loisnre to spare to wait for him to get back. She was a stout, good-looking girl, swingingtho axe liko a man, and in two minutes ho had decided lo say : "Susie, I'm a widower from New York state; I'm thirty-nine years old, have ono child, own a good farm and I want a wife. Will you go back homo with mo!"' She leaned on tho axe and looked at him for lailf a minute, and then replied : "Can't say for certain. Just wait nil I get these coons off my mind." Thirty years ago Michigan people wero a frank and truthful set. Remember that theso new mottoes are all stamped "Parker's Patent," and after you have seen them you w'Ol aot bo satisfied with tho poor things in ilw market called mottoes, which have no artistic merit, and can only be workod with difficulty, and when worked are quite unsatisfaclo-ri - - ". .
