Orain, a brakeman on the Moffat road, met with a bad accident Sunday evening that will cost him both of his feet. After leaving Crater, going east, it is necessary that the retainers be released and Crain went over the top to perform that duty. In some manner he stumblei aud missed one of the grab irons, fall ing under the wheels. His right foot was mashed so badly that am putation was i:e:essary ano Dr. riiompson, of the Steamboat hospital, says the left foot may also have to be amputated. In falling he must have caught on to a rod an1 alA flic hndv frnm itniTitr lin der the wheels. At the present time he is getting along very nice ly. His wife and his brother, H. A. Grain of Denver, came in Monday to look after the injured man. He is a member of the Order of Railroad Conductors and also an Elk. Steamboat Springs News. The above news will be received with much sympathy for the Crain family by many citizens of this community, as they formerly i resided here. Mrs. H. A. Cram and family are now living in Clarence and received word that it had become necessary for the amputation cf the other which was done Wednesday. However, his condition is such that his recovery i expected. Hand Badly Injured. Word was received heie last week from John Fartell, son of Judge R, Farr?ll of this city, stating that he had recently happened to a bad accident, while working for the Express Company at Billings, Mont. Mr. Farrell was coupling an express wagon when he got his two fore fingers on his right hand cut off and the entire hand badly lacerated, his left hand was also mashed up, I ut not so bad. His friends here will be sorry to here of his misfcr .une John Farrell left here last spring and located at Billings, Mont. His wife, nee Bertha Chick, joined him shortly after wards, where they have made their home since. Entertained. Miss Edith Combs entertained one afternoon last week Misses Blanche Tucker, Ruby Durham, Ruby Bishop and Hazel Ragland. The entertainment was given com plimentary to Edith's guests, Miss Brown and Miss Ginn of Fayette. The a'ternoon was spent in social converse over their fancy work. Light refreshmeits were served during the course of the afternoon and an excellent time reported. Good Feelers Picnic at Leonard. One jf the largest crowds ever assembled in Shelby county, attended the Good Feelers Picnic near Leonard, Saturday. About 500 people from Clarence and community were in attendance. The Citizens and Farmers Improve ment Association attended in a body. About 25 automobiles It ft h.'ie at 10 o'clock a. m. representing this Association and showing the good feeling existing between the towns and their appreciation of the Leonard folks. There was ..speaking by C. D Stewart, of Edina ani Sydney J. Roy, cotgressianal aspirantj, also present Congressman James T. Lloyd was represented by V. L. Drain of Sheljyvilie, wh j spoke in his bdbalf. Mrs Baxter, of Kirksville, spok-on Civic league improvements. Mrs. Myrtle Threlkeld, County SuperLtendant of schools iade a short address. A great aggregation of county candidates were there and speak ing coLtinued throughout the day by various ones. The crowd was estin ated from four tc five thousand people. Two Clarence autombiles had n head end collision and were badl.v damaged It wa? the cars of M Dimmitt, driven by Pat Dimrai t, and that of Lilly Bros. Pat was returning from the picnic grounds after another carlo-id from Clar ence when they met the Lilly Bros car on a turn in the road between Hagets Grove and Leonard ami while both cars weie going at n slow rate of speed neither saw tin-oiheMln time to prevent the collis ion. The Lilly Bros, car wac haded with gentlamen but very fortunately no one was hurt. A Jolly Good Time. Misses Dee and Beulah Ragland were the delightful hostesses at : bunking" party Monday nigh I The guests were Misses Mildred Casler, Lou Adams, Ruth Watkins, Zulu Powell, Christie Brown, Lu sile Withers, Alina Jacobs, Kath een Shale, Madge Pritchard a c Virginia Seats. Th: main feature of the night's entertainment was the morning scream which wis the result of some unexpected specta tors at one of those weird dances in which all present were pattici pants. Music and ghost stories were a part of the night's pleasure The time from 11 to 12 was spent by .he young ladies serenading seme of their friends in the vari ous parts of the city after which the midnight lunch was participat ed in and the rest of the night spent in many pleasant games for sleep was a thing unknown to the eyes of any of them. At eight o'clock a three course breakfast wis served and one pres ent remarked that "the breakfast was tit for a king." Street Fair For Clarence Many are talking about and looking forward to the announce ment of The Home Products Str ee Fair and the ulans proposed by the Citizens and Farmers Improvement Association of Clarence We beleive this will be a great thing for Clarence nnJ all the surrounding country. v e hope the plans of the Improvement Association will soon materialize into something definite Everybody for a great Street Fair the latter part of Sept or the 1st t .1 Oct. One of our representatives was over to the new ice plant on Saturday evening and saw them making that one necessary article for these hot days of August, The plant has been put in anc they are making ;ce low everj hour in the twenty four during which time they enn turn out one carload This ii some plant we can tell you and if you have never seen anything of the kind it is quite a wonder and would pay you to invest a little time that way. Messrs, Hopper and Bowen will be glad to show you over the plant. This is the largest plant to be found in the coucty and we as a town should give this liru oia hearty co-operation for it is quite an institution and one of which our town should be proud.
