The weekly Stockyards Journal began publication February 3, 1838 and continued through May 4, 1950 when it became the St. Joseph Stockyards Journal. The paper was published by the St. Joseph Journal Publishing Company with weekly market and livestock reports, local and national agricultural articles, local and state 4-H and FFA news and contest, agriculture shows, and livestock shows and sales.  With the June 22, 1961 issue the name changed to The Journal of Livestock and Agriculture
