About this collection

The Southeast Scimitar published itsfirst edition on May 23, 1901 with Corydon Garrett as owner and editor.  He states “The Southeast Scimitar will be democratic, conservative yet aggressive in all things pertinent to this town, county and state.”  With the January 3, 1902 issue the name changed to the Pemiscot Press and was published on Friday’s.  Corydon Garrett and Del Longgrear were owners and editors through 1906.  Charles Steward York owned the paper at the time of its last printing December 25, 1908.   York was also associated with, the Pemiscot Argus, Hayti Herald and Democrat-Argus in Pemiscot County.
