Pemiscot Argus banner

Established in 1898 by C.S. York, the motto of The Pemiscot Argus reads “The Argus, believing those at the top well able to take care of themselves, has taken its stand in the barricades with the common people, and its fight will be made for the betterment of those at the bottom.” In 1906 the paper was sold to the Pemiscot Argus Publishing Company.  Simon Edward Juden purchased The Argus Publishing Company in January of 1921 and published the Pemiscot Argus until November 24 when the company was dissolved. Juden and Oliver W. Chilton consolidated The Pemiscot Argus and the Twice-A-Week Democrat to form The Democrat Argus in December of 1921.
