The Word and The Way banner

The Word & Way began publication in Kansas City, MO July 7, 1896 with S. M. Brown and R. K. Maiden as editors.  In its first issue they state “The name we adopt is intended to be indicative of our aim. The “Word” God, prescribing, describing and circumscribing the “Way” of His people.  In the one thing which we see to emphasize.”   This editorial further states that the paper “will fight nothing but evil; will seek to increase knowledge and godliness in its readers; will seek to make the home what God wants it to be, and to maintain for woman her God-give place in that sacred institution; will seek to inspire and cultivate the spirit of missions…; will seek to establish the churches in doctrine…; will seek to increase and conserve harmony and fellowship among the brethren…”  The Word and Way will circulate in all states. The December 5, 1912 issue incorporates The Central Baptist paper that had been published in St. Louis, MO.  This came about from recommendations from the Western Baptist Publishing Company.  Beginning with the July 9, 1947 issue the paper reverts back to The Word and Way.  The paper continues to be published.
