The Macon Republican was established in Macon, Missouri on March 2, 1871 by Gen. F.A. Jones and S.G. Brock. Even though it was Republican in ideology, its fair and conservative policy was credited with attracting a fair share of Democratic readers. The Macon Republican acquired the Macon Citizen in 1901, becoming Macon’s sole Republican paper. The eight page paper was published weekly until 1922, after which time it was printed twice a week until its end in 1929. The Macon Republican was preceded by the Macon Weekly Republican and succeeded by the Macon Chronicle-Herald.
