About this collection

The Shelbina Torchlight maskhead

The Shelbina Torchlight, sometimes referred to as the Shelby County News, did not begin with this title. Instead it was called the Shelbina Index, started in 1881 by William N. Bumbarger and H.P. McRoberts. In 1885, the Index was sold to William Mason and promptly renamed the Shelbina Torchlight. The paper was bought and sold over a dozen times before it was merged with the Shelbina Democrat in 1923.
