Two men in their early twenties, Julius William Isermann and Thomas Robert Howard, decided that Marthasville would be the perfect place for them to establish their paper, the Marthasville News. By the sixth week of publishing, Howard decided to end his partnership with Isermann and leave the paper business. Isermann decided to take sole ownership of the paper and continued to publish. It is not certain when exactly the Marthasville News went out of publication, but it ceased publication somewhere in 1898-1902. It is known that Isermann became the publisher and editor of the Marthasville Record on January 2, 1903.
