Synopsis |
Robert Devoy was born on September 3, 1926. As a Democrat, he won election to the Missouri House six times, first in 1956, then in 1958. He took time out to serve as Linn County prosecutor, then returned to the Legislature for four consecutive terms, 1965-1973. He later served as circuit judge, 1982-1994, and continued to hold senior judge status at the time of the interview. For his most recent legislative biographic entry, see the Official Manual of the State of Missouri, 1971-1972; for the judicial, see 1993-1994. I met Judge Devoy at his fine, old, historic home in Brookfield, Missouri. We sat at the large, wooden dining room table to conduct the session. Although very friendly, Judge Devoy had a soft-spoken, somewhat retired and reticent manner; he seemed very conscientious about what he stated. We enjoyed a coffee break in between tape one and two. And we visited a great deal after the recorded interview, during which time the Judge gave me a tour of his home and told me about Brookfield history and such. |
